MUSIC: DATE TBD, Jeff Cleary returns to Lakeside Landing to croon during the cocktail hour! Jeff is a fourth generation San Franciscan and loves performing songs from the Great American Songbook. Jeff performs throughout the Bay Area at street fairs, birthday and anniversary parties, night clubs, VA facilities, retirement homes, and has been featured at the Great American Music Hall and the Marines’ Memorial Theater in the city.

WEEKLY VOLUNTEERS: Help us keep Lakeside Landing clean and tidy by signing up for 1-week at a time to wipe the cafe tables every day and pickup litter! This only takes a few minutes - and makes a huge difference for visitors.
NEWSLETTER WRITERS: Help write the monthly Lakeside Village newsletter by emailing lakeside@mainfare.com! The main tasks are writing a spotlight (80 words) on different businesses, and suggesting local topics of interest. Would suit any kid or adult who likes writing.
BOOKS: If you have spare books, these are always welcome at the little lending libraries at Lakeside Landing, 2504 Ocean Ave.

Find volunteers on the west side of Junipero Serra between Ocean and Woodacre any time between 2PM and 6PM. Whether you have one hour or four hours to volunteer, your help is appreciated. This project is funded by District 7 participatory budgeting. On December 11, 2023, we held a kick-off Zoom that was open to anyone interested. SIDEWALK CLEANING: On April 3, 2023, the Ocean Avenue Association (OAA) team started to clean Lakeside Village sidewalks including picking up litter, spot cleaning, and weeding tree basins. This is thanks to a new grant from Avenue Greenlight. In a survey of businesses, cleaner sidewalks were the top priority so we are already fundraising to continue the service past this one-year pilot. Please say hello to the OAA team when you see them including Roland, Curtis, Jerry, Roberto, and Santos.

Thank you to community gardener Anya for harvesting, the mint will be in bunches, in water for freshness, near the Edible Garden planter that is alongside Junipero Serra. Here's a recipe for a refreshing non-alcoholic Monday Mojito: 1. Put mint leaves and lime (or lemon) juice in a glass. 2. Add some honey or simple syrup or sugar. 3. Add sparkling water and ice. 4. Garnish with lime (or lemon) slices and a sprig of mint.

EDIBLE GARDEN: The new year brings edible gardening to Lakeside Landing! Please volunteer this Sunday January 9 at 2PM to fill the new rolling planter with organic soil. Wear a mask and bring any handy shovel or bucket for moving soil. Kids are welcome - and can learn from community gardener, Anya, about the importance of pH testing the soil's acidity, ensuring ideal conditions for growing vegetables and herbs. Thank you to Capital Group for funding the edible garden.

PETITION: In September 2021, the Business Council asked merchants to support our calls for urgent tree maintenance. Lakeside Village on Ocean appears not to be part of the Public Works published pruning schedule. We want to fix safety hazards including dead trees that may fall in a storm, stumps that may trip pedestrians, and overgrowth that obscures stop signs for drivers.

Visit Lakeside Landing (2504 Ocean at Junipero Serra) to learn more and participate in free family-friendly activities such as origami, art, and interactive crafts, anytime between 12PM to 4PM on Sunday July 25, Aug 1, Aug 8, and Aug 15.

During July 2021, the Business Council focused on designing artwork with 15 business sponsors for street banners to create a sense of place in Lakeside Village. We're excited about this campaign where permits have been approved for the concept of highlighting diverse activities for families and shoppers. AAA Flag & Banner will install the banners on 8 lampposts (maximum available currently) on Ocean Avenue between 19th and Junipero Serra on September 8, 2021.

SPEED BUMPS: July 16, 2021: Good news about Traffic Calming! Since 2009, Lakeside residents have asked for measures to slow down drivers for pedestrian safety. With thanks to a successful District 7 participatory budgeting proposal written by neighbor Kathleen, SFMTA will be installing 8 new speed bumps; Junipero Serra frontage road (3), Lagunitas (3), Beachmont (2). January 28, 2021: Outdoor dining resumes! The tables and chairs are set up again at Lakeside Landing in line with the updated shelter-in-place order.
January 22, 2021: Save the date! Lakeside Landing's first concert is the Jon Frank Jazz Quartet on Saturday Feb 13, 1PM to 4PM. Pending COVID-19 restrictions by mid-Feb, this may be live streamed, or we may be able to set up the tables in chairs again for socially distanced pods to enjoy music!

1. A new more formal association, Friends of Lakeside Village, is being created with SF Parks Alliance as a fiscal sponsor. This will help us fundraise for future projects. Thank you, Lisa Napoli.
2. The Dept of Public Works confirms that fill-in trees will be planted on the Junipero Serra median strip following the tree removal. Timeframe not yet confirmed.
3. Walgreens are implementing a new security program to stop theft including 2550 Ocean for the safety of employees, customers, and neighbors. Thank you, Denise Burns.
4. As a bit of fun, please vote on names for the Ocean/Junipero Serra parking lot! Survey takes 1-min, closes next week. Click here to vote. Thank you to all the neighbors who submitted ideas!
September 23, 2020: Permit received for Ocean/Junipero Serra Parking Lot. Good news! We received a permit from Oct 10 to Dec 31, 2020. If this experiment to make Lakeside Village more attractive for residents, shoppers, and businesses is a success, the closure may extend into 2021. Many volunteer opportunities will follow including helping to paint a fun ground mural!

Lakeside One participatory voting results. Good news! Four of the Lakeside One proposals submitted to the District 7 participatory budgeting received enough votes to move forward. Implementation will take many months but funding is approved and project managers will be assigned by the relevant City departments. In future, we can look forward to: a) Sidewalk Gardens on Ocean Ave in Lakeside Village; b) Planting and Beautification of the Junipero Serra Median; c) Speed Bumps to stop speeding and protect Lakeside One pedestrians; d) Wall Murals for Ocean Ave along the railway tracks to help stop unsightly graffiti. District 7 participatory budgeting. In January 2020, a number of residents submitted proposals for District 7 funds to make improvements in Lakeside One. The emphasis is on Ocean Ave in an effort to make the commercial corridor in Lakeside Village more attractive to businesses, shoppers, and residents. We will email links when the voting starts (voting will be open for 2-weeks, timing TBD). Each proposal requires over 450 votes from District 7 residents to move forward so we will ask you to reach out to your friends and family. Proposals include:
Junipero Serra Median planting and beautification, Denise Burns (Woodacre).
Restore the Horse Heads along Woodacre, Denise Burns (Woodacre).
Protect Lakeside One Pedestrians with speed bumps to stop speeding, Kathleen Lunbeck (Junipero Serra).
