Thank you to Avenue Greenlight for funding repairs along the commercial corridor. As one example in March, we replaced failing tree lights with weather-rated string lights to improve safety. Thank you to Bayluminations and Greenforce Outdoor Light.

Thank you to the Community Challenge Grants Program for sprucing up Ocean Ave. As one part of our 2023-24 grant, we are grateful to Rock & Rose Landscapes for their hard work in Feb-March 2024 to prune sidewalk gardens, top up mulch, and more. 

Visit Lakeside Landing, 2504 Ocean, to check out the new Aeonium, Blue Fescue, and more! Part of the scope for the Rock & Rose Landscapes team in 2024 is to replace failing plants. It's wonderful to see that their choices are thriving! 

NEW WAVE BENCH: We love this new wave bench installed on Monday Jan 8, 2024, by San Francisco artists Phil Spitler and Victoria Heilweil (see photo), thanks to a grant from OEWD and SF Planning. Thank you to SFMTA for supporting Lakeside Landing - this community space is open for every family to enjoy!

VOLUNTEER: Every month we organize litter pick-up days in Lakeside Village. In January, the first volunteer date is Sunday Jan 7, 2024, 2PM to 3:30PM. Sign-up here with Refuse Refuse.  Meet at Lakeside Landing, 2504 Ocean Ave, tools provided. Weeders also welcome! 

CLEANING LAKESIDE LANDING CAFE TABLES: Sign-up here for one week at a time to keep Lakeside Landing clean! Whether you're a kid looking to do community service or a volunteer wanting to make a difference where you live and/or work, join us in Lakeside Village. 

NEW MURALS: Thank you to District 7 for the participatory budgeting grant for murals. In December 2023, resident artist Mike Ritch finished transforming graffiti-covered utility boxes at Ocean and Junipero Serra into "Fish Tank" and "Lakeside Village".

Thank you to SFMTA for supporting murals in Lakeside Village including utility boxes (new 19th Ave box will be painted in 2024!), bus shelter ("Farallon Islands"), and all four walls in the M-line right-of-way.

"San Francisco Youth Ballet students are proud to bring a classic to life just in time for the holiday season. NEW STREET BANNERS: On Tuesday Dec 19, we finished an Avenue Greenlight Grant, Branding in Lakeside Village. Thank you to small business sponsors and private donors for the matching funds. Thank you to resident artist Mike Ritch for the artwork and A3 Visual for installing new street banners. Read more here.

On Monday Dec 11, 2023, we finished a District 7 Participatory Budgeting Grant, Sidewalk Gardens on Ocean. This project was led by California Climate Action Now! and removed tripping hazards around existing tree basins, planted new trees and flowers, and mulched all 45 sidewalk gardens. Read more here and visit Ocean Avenue to see the beautiful gardens for yourself!

PLANT POPPIES: Sunday Dec 3, 2023, at 10AM, bring your kids to work with high schooler Harper at Lakeside Landing! Harper will lead a poppy planting and science conversation suitable for kids of all ages. 

PLANT TREES AND FLOWERS: Sunday Dec 3, 11AM to 4PM, sign-up here to plant 8 new trees on Ocean Ave, the commercial corridor between 19th and Junipero Serra. Led by Markos at Climate Action Now, we will also plant beautiful flowers and add mulch to every tree basin. If you can bring a wheelbarrow, please email lakeside@mainfare.com. 

PICKUP LITTER: Sunday Dec 3, 2PM to 3:30PM, sign-up here to tidy Lakeside Village. Join RefuseRefuseSF, Shine On, SF Public Works, and Together SF for a friendly cleanup! Meet at 2PM at Lakeside Landing, 2504 Ocean Ave. Litter pickup tools provide. 

HOLIDAY MARKET: Saturday Dec 2, 2023, 10AM to 3PM for the annual Holiday Marketplace at Lakeside Landing. Pickup great gifts for your family and friends! Donate warm coats to the Coat Drive organized by Girl Scouts troop #62422 and One Warm Coat. Enjoy lunch at one of the wonderful Lakeside Village restaurants. 


VOLUNTEER: Saturday Dec 2, 2023, 9AM to 12PM, sign-up here to tidy the Junipero Serra berm in Lakeside 2&3, including picking up litter, weeding, and spreading mulch. Starting point is the wood chip pile between Winston and Holloway.

Start at Mike’s studio, Jean Henry School of Art, upstairs at 2640 Ocean Ave. 

Then go behind-the-scenes for the full story of the four giant murals alongside the M-line, “Ophelia” the octopus ground mural at Lakeside Landing, “Farallon Islands” on the bus shelter, and “fish tank” on the utility boxes on Ocean at Junipero Serra.

EDIBLE GARDEN: Saturday May 27, 2023, at 2PM, join us at the Edible Garden, Lakeside Landing! Learn about the three sisters planted in April. Harvest some of the favas, insert sticks for the beans to grow on, and plant squash and zucchini.

Anything not picked up by others will be donated to the SF SPCA. Find something new for your critter and elevate your already fabulous status in their eyes! Please also consider dropping off flat sheets, old towels and blankets. The SPCA has a special ask out right now for these items. Thank you on behalf of the two- and four-legged community!

EDIBLE GARDEN: Join Earth Day at the newly expanded Edible Garden! Saturday April 22, 2023 at 330PM, with community gardeners, Anya and Erin, at Lakeside Landing. Suitable for families of all ages, we will plant the Three Sisters. This is inspired by the many Native American communities where three seeds – corn, beans, and squash – represent the most important crops. SIDEWALK CLEANING: On April 3, 2023, the Ocean Avenue Association (OAA) team started to clean Lakeside Village sidewalks including picking up litter, spot cleaning, and weeding tree basins. This is thanks to a new grant from Avenue Greenlight. In a survey of businesses, cleaner sidewalks were the top priority so we are already fundraising to continue the service past this one-year pilot. Please say hello to the OAA team when you see them including Roland, Curtis, Jerry, Roberto, and Santos.

EDIBLE GARDEN: June 27, 2022, 6PM, pickup free organic mint from Lakeside Landing! Thank you to community gardener Anya for harvesting, the mint will be in bunches, in water for freshness, near the Edible Garden planter that is alongside Junipero Serra. Here's a recipe for a refreshing non-alcoholic Monday Mojito: 1. Put mint leaves and lime (or lemon) juice in a glass. 2. Add some honey or simple syrup or sugar. 3. Add sparkling water and ice. 4. Garnish with lime (or lemon) slices and a sprig of mint.

VOTE: If you live in District 7 (Check your district), please vote before June 27, 2022, for our participatory budgeting proposal, "More trash cans = less litter in Lakeside Village", at this link: SF.GOV/D7VOTE. Participatory Budgeting allows residents to have a say in what community projects get funded to improve neighborhoods. Residents and community groups have submitted their ideas. You can vote for as many or as few projects as you like. To get funded, projects need at least 400 votes, so please ask your neighbors to vote too!

PETITION: April 2022, Please sign this petition to support Keith at Ambrosia Bakery. Public Works issued a ~$4,500 fine for over-pruning two street trees (to address customer complaints about crosswalk safety). PETITION: In September 2021, the Business Council asked merchants to support our calls for urgent tree maintenance. Lakeside Village on Ocean appears not to be part of the Public Works published pruning schedule. We want to fix safety hazards including dead trees that may fall in a storm, stumps that may trip pedestrians, and overgrowth that obscures stop signs for drivers.

Visit Lakeside Landing (2504 Ocean at Junipero Serra) to learn more and participate in free family-friendly activities such as origami, art, and interactive crafts, anytime between 12PM to 4PM on Sunday July 25, Aug 1, Aug 8, and Aug 15.

During July 2021, the Business Council focused on designing artwork with 15 business sponsors for street banners to create a sense of place in Lakeside Village. We're excited about this campaign where permits have been approved for the concept of highlighting diverse activities for families and shoppers. AAA Flag & Banner will install the banners on 8 lampposts (maximum available currently) on Ocean Avenue between 19th and Junipero Serra on September 8, 2021.

SPEED BUMPS: July 16, 2021: Good news about Traffic Calming! Since 2009, Lakeside residents have asked for measures to slow down drivers for pedestrian safety. With thanks to a successful District 7 participatory budgeting proposal written by neighbor Kathleen, SFMTA will be installing 8 new speed bumps; Junipero Serra frontage road (3), Lagunitas (3), Beachmont (2). January 22, 2021: Save the date! Lakeside Landing's first concert is the Jon Frank Jazz Quartet on Saturday Feb 13, 1PM to 4PM. Pending COVID-19 restrictions by mid-Feb, this may be live streamed, or we may be able to set up the tables in chairs again for socially distanced pods to enjoy music!  

January 19, 2021: Please visit Lakeside Landing! All the planters now contain beautiful flowers, thank you to Markos Major at Climate Action Now! Checkout the new fairy village and the freehand painting by local teens that adds even more fun to the Nature Exploration Area "shipwreck" for kids. Photos on Instagram.

December 19, 2020: Volunteers needed for filling planters with soil! From 12PM to 1PM, we will fill the remaining planters at Lakeside Landing with soil. Please wear mask & gloves, bring a shovel & bucket (or wheelbarrow). 

December 16, 2020: Volunteers needed for mulch moving! From 3PM to 4PM, we will move beautiful donated chopped Eucalyptus mulch into the Nature Exploration Area. Please wear mask and gloves. Bring a bucket!

Saturday 11/21, 2PM to 3PM, sweeping & trash pickup! Meet at the octopus. Please bring your masks, gloves, brooms & dustpans. 
Sunday 11/22, all day, painting! Meet the artist, Mike Ritch, to paint details for the octopus ground mural, weather permitting.

November 14, 2020: Update! The octopus mural and landscaping work continue with help from lots of volunteers. Thank you to the city for providing 2 new garbage cans on Ocean right by the entrance to Lakeside Landing!

Sunday 10/25, 3PM to 4PM, dirt-digging! Organized by DPW, we received a generous donation of free soil for Lakeside Landing planters, delivered by Treaty Construction. We will move some soil to an adjacent flowerbed before the powerwashing. Bring your masks, gloves & shovels!
Sunday 11/1, 2PM to 3PM, trash pickup, sweeping, and powerwashing. Please wear a mask & gloves and bring a broom! Trash bags with be provided.
Thursday 11/5, 11AM to 5PM, ground mural painting day with shifts for socially-distanced painting (masks, gloves etc.).
Tuesday 11/10, 3PM, painting details for the octopus. 

October 23, 2020: Chairs delivered to Lakeside Landing! These are set up in socially distanced groups with temporary signs to welcome everyone to make themselves comfortable. Tables will arrive soon.

October 7, 2020: Lakeside One newsletter including:
1. The votes are in! For the temporarily closed parking lot (Ocean at Junipero Serra), the winning name is "Lakeside Landing".  More volunteer opportunities will be announced soon!
2. Friends of Lakeside Village is hiring a part-time caretaker for the parking lot to help with light maintenance, cleaning tables, watering plants etc. 
3. It's almost Halloween! Stay safe during COVID-19 by putting bowls of candy at the edge of your driveway, wearing a mask, and making sure you stay socially distant from trick-or-treaters.
4. Please visit Lakeside Village businesses. Lunch outside at Lucho's, cakes from Ambrosia or sandwiches from Dinosaurs or socially-distanced yoga at the Breathe Salt Yoga studio. Shopping from home? Special offer of free delivery on orders over $100 from San Francisco's Flatiron Wines & Spirits. 

September 28, 2020: Lakeside One newsletter including:
1. A new more formal association, Friends of Lakeside Village, is being created with SF Parks Alliance as a fiscal sponsor. This will help us fundraise for future projects. Thank you, Lisa Napoli.
2.  The Dept of Public Works confirms that fill-in trees will be planted on the Junipero Serra median strip following the tree removal. Timeframe not yet confirmed.
3.  Walgreens are implementing a new security program to stop theft including 2550 Ocean for the safety of employees, customers, and neighbors. Thank you, Denise Burns.
4.  As a bit of fun, please vote on names for the Ocean/Junipero Serra parking lot! Survey takes 1-min, closes next week. Click here to vote. Thank you to all the neighbors who submitted ideas! 

September 23, 2020: Permit received for Ocean/Junipero Serra Parking Lot. Good news! We received a permit from Oct 10 to Dec 31, 2020. If this experiment to make Lakeside Village more attractive for residents, shoppers, and businesses is a success, the closure may extend into 2021. Many volunteer opportunities will follow including helping to paint a fun ground mural! 

September 5, 2020: Thank you to the volunteers who cleaned up Lakeside Village today! For a few photos of the fun, click here. Thank you to the city for picking up the surprisingly large mountain of trash bags on the same day. The next cleanup date is TBD, likely October.   

September 5, 2020:
Lakeside Village Cleanup with Social Distancing and COVID-19 Protocols. Please join your friends and neighbors on Saturday Sept 5 from 3PM to 4PM to help cleanup Lakeside Village. We will meet in the Parking Lot on Ocean at Junipero Serra. Trash bags will be provided for garbage pickup. Please wear a mask and gloves. Bring your own garden tools if you would like to help weed the neglected periphery of the parking lot. All families are welcome!

August 27, 2020:
Lakeside One participatory voting results. Good news! Four of the Lakeside One proposals submitted to the District 7 participatory budgeting received enough votes to move forward. Implementation will take many months but funding is approved and project managers will be assigned by the relevant City departments. In future, we can look forward to: a) Sidewalk Gardens on Ocean Ave in Lakeside Village; b) Planting and Beautification of the Junipero Serra Median; c) Speed Bumps to stop speeding and protect Lakeside One pedestrians; d) Wall Murals for Ocean Ave along the railway tracks to help stop unsightly graffiti. Thank you to the many people who wrote proposals - and voted! 

March 25, 2020:
Next neighborhood meeting. In light of COVID-19 concerns, the next Lakeside One meeting will be outside during the summer (date TBD). Bring your family and favorite "pandemic packaged snack” to Junipero Serra frontage road on a Saturday afternoon for happy hour, 4PM to 6PM. Meet the neighbors! February 5, 2020:
District 7 participatory budgeting. In January 2020, a number of residents submitted proposals for District 7 funds to make improvements in Lakeside One. The emphasis is on Ocean Ave in an effort to make the commercial corridor in Lakeside Village more attractive to businesses, shoppers, and residents. We will email links when the voting starts (voting will be open for 2-weeks, timing TBD). Each proposal requires over 450 votes from District 7 residents to move forward so we will ask you to reach out to your friends and family. Proposals include:
